Cartwheel Shorts 05 are a wide leg short that can be made up with a cuff or a contrast hem band. They are easy to make and perfectly suited for cartwheeling. Please note: no provisions have made in the crotch area for nappy/diapers. These shorts are for big girls who wear undies and the pattern includes sizes 3 - 10.
All Views have front slant pockets to store treasures and lip balm, an inverted box pleat in the front that can be embellished with a pretty button, and a comfortable, encased elastic waistband.
View A is shorter, with a fold up cuff and side tabs. There is an additional inverted box pleat on the bottom of the shorts making the legs a little narrower.
View B is the longer length option, with a more voluminous (culottes-like) leg and contrast hem bands. The leg width will be accentuated in crisper fabrics (like quilting cotton, lightweight denim). Fluid fabrics work beautifully in View B.
Light to medium-weight woven fabrics including cotton sateen, quilting cotton, poplin, shirting, lightweight denim, dupioni, taffeta, crepe de chine, voile, challis. Extra fabric may be needed to match plaids, stripes or directional prints.
- 1” (25mm) width elastic (see fabric requirements table for quantity)
- 2 – 4 buttons: strictly optional and can be used to embellish either View A or View B. They can be sewn over the top box pleat and side tabs. Suggested button size range is: ½ inch (13mm) to 1 inch (25mm)
